Nissan Maxima Suspension System

The suspension system in the Nissan Maxima includes shocks and or struts, and sway bars, leaf spring, coil springs, air springs, and torsion bars. Front and rear springs paired off in various combinations and attached by different mounting techniques to suspend a vehicle's sprung weight is called the suspension.

Improvements in suspension and steering, increased strength and durability of components, and advances in tire design and construction have made large contributions to riding comfort and safe driving.

The suspension system of your Nissan Maxima has two basic functions, to keep its wheels in firm contact with the road and to provide a comfortable ride for the passengers. A lot of the system's work is done by the springs. Under normal conditions, the springs support the body of the car evenly by compressing and rebounding with every up-and-down movement.

This up-and-down movement causes bouncing and swaying after each bump and is very uncomfortable to the passenger. These undesirable effects are reduced by the shock absorbers.

All of the new Maximas carry an independent strut front suspension system and a compact multi link beam arrangement in back that produces a smooth ride quality that contributes to the car's stability while negotiating a corner. This arrangement is the same as employed on the previous Maxima although there are front and rear stabilizer bars aboard to block excessive lateral roll of the body through a sharp corner.
