2002 Nissan Maxima
The 2002 Maxima is stylish and is highly comparable with most of today's sedans.
But appearance is only skin deep when it comes to the 2002 improvements. Maxima's
strength continues to lie in its power and performance.
Power is boosted to 255 horsepower with a 3.5-liter 24-valve V6. In addition
to the 33 added horses, the engine gets numerous technical tweaks that should
help keep its reputation as one of the best V6 plants.
The 2002 Maxima's optional manual transmission picks up a sixth gear. The manual
also can be ordered with a limited-slip differential, which improves speed off
the line and coming off turns. Other new features for 2002 include an available
navigation system that helps assure you are heading in the right direction.
The Maxima comes in three trims, the base GXE starting at $24,699, the top-level
GLE and sport-tuned SE, which stickers from $25,499. Standards get a boost this
year, too.
The GXE comes with antilock brakes, air conditioning, power windows and mirrors,
cruise control, remote entry, and CD/cassette audio system. The six-speed manual
is standard on the SE, as well as a rear spoiler, fog lights, titanium-faced gauges
and 17-inch alloy wheels. For a family sedan in this price range, the Maxima is
one of the sportiest, especially if you choose the SE.
