Redesigned, more-powerful Maxima debuted in spring 1999, as an early 2000 model. Available traction control was the main addition to its previous design. All models also got minor trim revisions and a standard antitheft engine immobilizer.

 The '99 Maxima is available in three models - GXE, SE and GLE sedans. Standard features on all models include cruise control, air conditioning and power windows and door locks. The SE is equipped with halogen fog lights, a rear spoiler and white-faced analog style gauges with reverse-to-electroluminescent lighting.

Standard luxury amenities for the GLE include leather seating surfaces, automatic climate control and a Bose Audio system. Available options include a power glass sunroof, Traction control, and an anti-lock braking system. The Deluxe Seating package (SE and GLE only) includes front side-impact airbags, heated front seats, heated outside mirrors and a heavy duty battery.
